Boonville Countdown: 44 days

Edna St. Vincent Millay photographed by Arnold Genthe, 1918

I love to travel. I fear isolation.

A few years ago I took a two-week solo trip up to the "Downeast" section of Maine. I was staying in a very lovely and lonely part of Cobscook Bay State Park when I decided to take a late-night drive. By this time I was sick of my selection of Cd's and switched over to the radio. This was the exact moment I was introduced to Edna St. Vincent Millay, a wonderful American poet Born in 1892. For the next hour I was transported into Edna's beautiful world. I quickly found myself in awe of her talent and envious of her life.

In just 44 days, traveling and Isolation will become a standard part of my life. I will be sure to have a collection of Edna St. Vincent Millay's poetry by my side.

"Travel"
Edna St. Vincent Millay
THE railroad track is miles away,
And the day is loud with voices speaking,
Yet there isn't a train goes by all day
But I hear its whistle shrieking.

All night there isn't a train goes by,
Though the night is still for sleep and dreaming,
But I see its cinders red on the sky,
And hear its engine steaming.

My heart is warm with the friends I make,
And better friends I'll not be knowing;
Yet there isn't a train I wouldn't take,
No matter where it's going.

Boonville Countdown: 50 Days

Boonville, Missouri [c.1895] photo courtesy of The Library of Congress

I have just returned from a fantastic getaway in The Hampton's (It's not often that I get to say that). It was one of the most relaxing times I have had in recent memory. It felt great to finally remove myself from my Boonville project and all the stress surrounding it.

Cannery Works and I have now raised over $6,000 from my support letters for Boonville. I am driving up to Massachusetts tomorrow morning to pick up the equipment I will be using for the trip. Including: a new 4x5, a new Mamyia 7II, and the new Profoto Acute 600B. Pictures coming...

SADKIDS NUMBER 4

Geoffrey Ellis has just released Sadkids Number 4, an amazing collection of images taken in Memphis, Tennessee between 1996 and 2006. I am a proud owner of Sadkids Number 3 but sadly I missed out on Sadkids Number 1 (Number 2 is not out yet - OK, Mr. Barney).

Geoffrey is awesome: He's an amazing photographer, a great designer (the Zine Layouts are fantastic) and he has also been very supportive of me and my upcoming Boonville project.

Email Goeffrey to get your copy of Sadkids Number 4 - they won't last.
